Year Recap Part 3

Over the summer, we hatched some ducklings!

I don't think I mentioned my ducks before, so allow me to preface with the history of my duckies.

First, there was Dodger. We got him from a farm animal shelter, where we were told he was a girl. He was not. So then, because more males than females leads to fighting, we went searching for a female. And couldn't find any. So we got a chicken to keep him company. We later named her Heihei.

We started noticing a lot of hawks in the area, so to be safe, we got two geese to protect Dodger and Heihei. Their names are Charles (the big white one) and Matilda (the brown speckled one), though we originally had mixed up their genders...

After a couple visits and calls to Lollypop Farm, we eventually became foster parents of a set of white pekin ducks, 2 or 3 of which were females. But they seemed to think they were geese and wouldn't interact with Dodger and Heihei except to bully them. Except one, who finally accepted him. We named her Carla and took the others to Lollypop.

Then, we got two ducklings from a guy on craigslist. They were tiny and adorable, and were eventually named Floppy (the male) and Doofus (the female). Floppy was named for his weak legs as a duckling, which on a few occasions caused him to adorably flop down, and Doofus was named for her... intelligence.

One day in the fall, a hawk flew over and picked off Heihei, who was the sort of loner of the pen. And in the winter a fox attacked, and Dodger (the smallest but the bravest) was taken... After awhile, Carla hurt her foot, and then got sick. Leaving us with just Floppy and Doofus.

So, in the summer, we hatched some of Doofus' eggs. The first two were a male (still unnamed) and a light-colored female, Chestnut.

Then we hatched 3 more, who all were males- Oreo (because of his black and white splotched body when he grew up),

Kakashi (the albino, for his likeness to the Naruto character),

and Haku (who has a malformed wing, but was named after the Naruto character because we originally thought him to be a female because of his loud quacking). I forgot to take a picture of him alone when he was tiny, but he's the one at the top here:

We eventually had to get rid of Floppy, though, because he was too aggressive toward his sons...

Year Recap Part 2

Ok, so, in the Spring semester I took a sculpture class. I made lots of cool things!

A nearly life-sized (or at least child-sized) cardboard warrior:

A wooden dragon head, which I was originally planning to add details to and stain/shine up, but it was taking way too long, so I ended up turning it into a mummy at the last minute to hide its unfinished-ness (I will try to eventually finish it as I had originally planned, though):

The dragon head was also a perfect size that I can wear it as a mask/helmet! (Though there are a few pokey bits on the inside that don't make it ideal...)

And then I got to play with fire and an anvil and such, and made a little metal pirate ship! I originally wanted it to be able to float, but I suck at welding, so I couldn't fill in the little holes on the bottom without replacing them with more holes... So I made it a little dock instead, for it to rest on.

I also had to do 100 drawings of various sculptures for the class. It was supposed to be one a day for the whole semester, but I got busy with other things... So I ended up doing like half of them in the last week or so... I won't post all 100 of them here (If you want, you can see them here and here on my Deviantart), but these are my favorite of them:

Year Recap Part 1

I just realized I never actually posted anything here about the rest of the Christmas plushies I made last year! (Though, spoiler alert, I didn't actually finish all of them, so maybe at first I had planned to post about it once they were all done...) But so much has happened in the past year, so I'm going to take it one step at a time for this recap.
First of all- the Christmas plushies!

Last Christmas, I made two sets of plushies- the ones that were done by Christmas Eve, for the people I live with or came over on Christmas Eve:

-The Mew, obviously, which I showed before.
-A unicorn (made with this pattern), which ended up getting a bit of an afro-mane, and probably should have been stuffed a little more (thankfully little kids aren't too picky)

-A Toothless (made with this pattern, by Project Toothless)

-A little unicorn ornament (made with this pattern, by Alan Dart), which had a much more controllable mane

-And an elephant ornament (made with this pattern by Jennifer Laine).

There was also a baby murloc, which I finished at the last minute Christmas day (because I always have to do something last-minute). I actually made the pattern myself, which I posted here on my Deviantart.

Then the second set of plushies were done by the 12th Day of Christmas, and were for my friends at school:

-A manta ray (whose pattern I designed myself, but I have yet to post)

-A flamingo (which I also designed, but am somewhat ashamed to share because it didn't turn out very well)

-A rabbit (also from my own pattern, which I posted here on Deviantart)

-A Yoshi (made from this pattern, which I believe was taken from a licensed Nintendo plush...)

-A poro (made from this pattern by GrnMarco)

-An eevee (made from this pattern by Luminous-Luchador)

-A kodama, the little spirit guys from Princess Mononoke (I designed the pattern, but again, I probably won't share it)

-A seal, made from this pattern

-And some little guys with magnets in them, which I designed based on one of my friend's drawings

There were also two plushies that I meant to make (by Christmas Eve), but didn't have time to make, and thereafter forgot about until just recently... hopefully they will be done this year.

Oh, and I also did a raffle on Deviantart last year for a plushie that I would make after completing all of these (which I had meant to share here too, but totally forgot to do...) And the winner got a totoro, which I finished in June...

I made the pattern for the totoro too, but since it requires a bit of thread-sculpting to get to the right shape, I'm waiting to release the pattern until I have time to make at least a little tutorial along with it.

So Many Crafts, So Little Time

It's been awhile since I last posted, but a lot has happened. I've just been super busy with school this past semester. During the semester, I mostly did a bunch of origami, since it was quick and easy to do. Lots of tiny paper cranes which I hid all over, and a modular soma cube  puzzle thing.

I also started making little origami balls. This was the smallest one I managed to make. I put it on a dime for scale.

There was also a holiday card challenge on Deviantart, so I made a few cards for that in between studying for finals.

And a Pokemon pun one, just for fun!

Then we did secret santas in my dorm hall, and I made a stocking for my person, which I filled with candy.

And this past week, I made some Christmas ornaments using baking soda clay! Including footprints of some of our pets. I only got a print from one of the ducks, though. It was hard enough chasing one of them down...

And last but not least, I finished the first of the many plushies I'll be making for Christmas, as per my usual tradition... Hopefully I'll get them all done on time this year.

Just like with my Sylvan the Ranger plushie, though, this Mew started off very fluffy!

Not a Llama

It's been awhile, and a lot has happened, but I just finished another plushie! This one is of Sylvan the Ranger, a Ramkahen character created by Galder, who was running a contest on Deviantart to depict his characters, which I made this plushie for.

I'm pretty happy with how it turned out, although the face and hair could use a bit of work. According to my boyfriend, however, it's a funny-looking llama. I think that stemmed from the fact that I made it out of fur fabric that was way too fluffy and had to trim it down, so there was a point before I added the arms and whatnot that it looked like this:

Thankfully after the trim it looked a bit less like a llama and more like a lion-centaur thing, like it's supposed to :) However, it also left me completely covered in fluff...
